It was quite an unforgettable summer transfer for Nicolas Jackson as he found himself at the centre of one of the craziest transfer sagas of all time.
The 24-year-old was linked with an exit from Chelsea all summer long and landed in Germany to complete a move to Bayern Munich late in the window.
However, he was in for a shock as Chelsea cancelled Jackson’s loan move to Bayern following an injury to Liam Delap and requested that he return home.
Thankfully for the Senegal international, that wasn’t the end of the transfer saga.
Bayern eventually agreed to Jackson’s loan with an obligation to buy, so the deal was reignited and took place on Monday’s deadline day.
However, former footballer turned pundit Paul Merson is surprised that no Premier League side made a move for the striker as he shared his verdict on the matter.

Paul Merson shocked by lack of Premier League interest in Nicolas Jackson
While Paul Merson concedes that Jackson has secured a great transfer to Bundesliga powerhouses Bayern, he’s expressed his shock that Premier League teams didn’t push to sign him.
Merson said on the Sky Sports News channel, “I’m amazed no one has come in for Nicolas Jackson. How Newcastle have not gone after him I do not know…
“Nicolas Jackson is a handful. He made [Cole] Palmer as good as Palmer made him, in my opinion… Aston Villa don’t look like scoring a goal for toffee. There are deals to be done. I’m flabbergasted this lad has not gone anywhere…
“I think he’s a bit rough, but I’m shocked he’s not gone anywhere else. Don’t get me wrong, he’s got a lovely move to Bayern Munich, an amazing club, but everybody wants to play in the Premier League.”
Jackson was on Newcastle United’s radar for a while in the summer, but they ended up signing Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade to reinforce their forward line after Alexander Isak’s exit to Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Villa too had the Senegal international on their shortlist, but did not end up pursuing him.
While Jackson is a good acquisition for Bayern Munich, there is no certainty that he will walk into their starting line-up immediately.
He is most likely to play second fiddle to Harry Kane for the striker role at his new club.
Though he would have walked into the starting line-up of many Premier League teams, that won’t be the case for him in Germany.
