Paul Bissonnette reveals wild rumblings about Hughes brothers teaming up in New York

The Hughes brothers reuniting one day and all playing together in the NHL is inevitable.

Whether that happens in the near future or further down the road remains to be seen, but it’s hard to envision a scenario where it doesn’t come to fruition.

The vast majority of the hockey world expects that to be the result of Quinn Hughes joining his brothers Jack and Luke on the New Jersey Devils.

That still remains the most likely way this situation plays out; however, former NHLer Paul Bissonnette is hearing other crazy rumors regarding the trio.

On the recent episode of the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast, Biz shared that someone in the Hughes family wants them to all end up on the New York Rangers; whether that’s plausible or not is a whole different story. Here was what he had to say.

“I have heard rumblings that someone in the family wants them to be Rangers, New York Rangers. I, depending on how the next year goes, maybe you could give it two years; I would assume that they just all end up and stay in New Jersey. I think it’s inevitable,” Bissonnette said.

“Luke’s going to be offered this monstrous entry-level deal. Jack’s got probably four to five years left on that eight-year deal. And then my assumption is the Canucks are going to be like, “Listen, what do you want to do?” and they have to want to get a boatload in return because you can’t lose him for nothing. And if it were to happen in the second part of this season if things aren’t going well for Vancouver, you get so much more for him because he still has next year on the deal,” Bissonnette added.

Quinn Hughes has two years remaining on the six-year, $47.1 million contract extension he signed with the Canucks back in 2021.

A New Jersey reunion is much more likely

While Bissonnette is very tuned in around the NHL and what he’s hearing holds a lot of merit, the odds of the Hughes brothers ending up on the Rangers is a pie-in-the-sky scenario.

With Jack and soon Luke both to be locked in on long-term deals in New Jersey, there’s no reason for the Devils to even consider letting them go.

As Biz referred to, the ultimate result would be Quinn and the Canucks having a poor start to the 2025-26 season, and management eventually giving in and trading their captain to the Devils for a haul in return.

That, of course, could all change if Vancouver comes hot out of the gates, but until we see that happen, these rumors are going to continue.
