The Patriots made headlines in 2024 when their remake of “Good Will Hunting” with Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski served as their schedule announcement. For a follow-up, New England went with a pair of videos that had much less production value — but still entertained.
The Patriots brought in Barstool Sports founder and super-fan Dave Portnoy to break down their schedule, and he did just that. Portnoy might have been a little too honest about New England’s opponents, but that’s what makes the nearly six-minute video so unique.
A handful of Patriots players also got together for an “egg drop” video to reveal the team’s schedule, but Portnoy takes the cake as the headliner of the team’s announcement this year.

Portnoy held an “emergency press conference” to reveal the Patriots’ schedule, referencing the numerous “emergency” videos he often posts after major news breaks.
Portnoy didn’t just reveal the Patriots’ schedule — he gave some brutally honest takes on New England’s opponents, holding nothing back despite his team coming off back-to-back four-win seasons. If his prognostications come true, the Patriots will be winning much more than just four games in 2025.

To start the season Portnoy predicted a 42-7 win over the Raiders in Week 1, calling out the organization for firing current and former Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and questioning why his friend Tom Brady is allowed to analyze games for Fox while working in Las Vegas’ front office. Portnoy went on to declare that “no one cares about football in Miami” and called the Panthers “the most irrelevant franchise in football,” giving the Patriots a 4-0 start.
After predicting wins over the Bills, Saints, and Titans (by a score of 64-10), Portnoy called the Browns “a joke” and pushed the Patriots to 10-0 after a predicted win over the “not terrible” Buccaneers.

Portnoy then came for the Jets, asking, “Why would you ever put the Jets in prime time?” and he called out Bengals QB Joe Burrow for caring more about his wardrobe than football. The media personality also declared the Bills’ championship window closed while predicting a season sweep of Josh Allen and Buffalo.
By Week 18, the final tally was 17 wins and zero losses for the Patriots. Perhaps Portnoy time-traveled to 2007.
Portnoy’s mentality is at least somewhat of a window into how the Patriots and their fans are feeling ahead of the season. After two demoralizing seasons and two coaching changes, New England believes it has its coach and quarterback of the future along with more stability on each side of the ball after a handful of key free-agent additions.
Going 17-0 is probably a stretch — never say never in this league — but tangible improvement from 4-13 is the expectation in Foxborough.
