Patriots reportedly meeting with $22 million Pro Bowl wide receiver

The New England Patriots have been active this offseason but have yet to bring in a true No. 1 wide receiver for quarterback Drake Maye.

The wide receiver position has been a problem for the Patriots the past few seasons. In 2024, no receiver on the team reached 700 yards. After being named in rumors for nearly every star receiver throughout the past two seasons, New England may finally sign a star receiver.

The Patriots are reportedly bringing in $22 million Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs for a visit, according to The Athletic’s Chad Graff.

“Stefon Diggs, a 10-year veteran and former All-Pro with six 1,000-yard seasons, is in Foxboro, Mass., visiting with the team, according to a league source,” Graff wrote. “The Patriots and Diggs have not yet agreed to a contract, but if the visit goes well for the two sides, one could come soon.”

“The Patriots are badly in need of wide receiver help. As it stands, their top options are Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne, Demario Douglas and Ja’Lynn Polk. Given Diggs’ ACL tear in late October, he probably wouldn’t be ready at the start of training camp and perhaps not even the beginning of the season. But even if he can’t play a full season, the Patriots need major help at wide receiver, and Diggs could provide that.”

Diggs had 47 receptions for 496 receiving yards and three touchdowns in only eight games last season. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and former First-Team All-Pro. Though Diggs likely wouldn’t be ready for the start of the season, he would instantly improve New England’s passing game.
