The New England Patriots have the fourth pick in the draft, and with reports that the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns will pass on Shedeur Sanders, the Patriots could trade the pick to a team desperate for a quarterback.
The New Orleans Saints need a quarterback, but Sanders may not be available when the ninth pick rolls around. AtoZ Sports Sophie Weller proposed this trade that would allow the Saindt to acquire the fourth pick, moving the Patriots down to No.9 overall. She predicted the Patriots would use this pick to take Ashton Jeanty:
- Patriots receive: No.9 overall pick and No.40 overall pick
- Saints receive: No.4 overall pick
“Jeanty is an incredible playmaker who finished with 4,769 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns over three seasons with Boise State,” wrote Weller. “New England currently has three running backs on the roster – Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, and Terrell Jennings. Stevenson is the team’s top back, but he struggled last season, putting the ball on the ground too many times. However, the new coaching staff has expressed faith in Stevenson and are excited to work with him going forward. Yet, there is no denying that adding Jeanty to the room could bring in a new level to this offense.”
Mike Vrabel’s team dominated on the ground when he had an elite running back with the Tennesee Titans. Jeanty may not be Derrick Henry, but he had over 2,000 rushing yards last season and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up.

In this trade, the Saints would be able to land their quarterback of the future, while the Patriots would add an extra pick in the second round. They could then Package that pick to move back into the first round, or they could simply address their need at offensive tackle on Day 2 if the draft.
