The New England Patriots could be looking to add a receiver with the No.4 overall pick in the upcoming draft. Travis Hunter could be available, but the Patriots will have options if he is not.
Hunter won the Heisman Trophy last season for his ability on both sides of the ball. He led the Big 12 in receptions and touchdowns. He could instantly become the No.1 option for Drake Maye, but there is a chance he will be taken before the fourth overall pick. Even if Hunter is gone the Patriots can land a potential superstar. FanSided’s Ryan McLaughlin suggested the team could target University of Arizona superstar Tetairoa McMillan.
“While some worry that the Arizona standout is just a 2.0 version of N’Keal Harry, McMillan has the combination of size and speed to be a surefire deep threat in the NFL,” wrote McLaughlin. “McMillan, who stands 6’4, silenced some doubters with an impressive 4.48 40-yard dash clocking at the combine. The big question is, can McMillan consistently win at the line of scrimmage and create separation, a trait that Patriots’ receivers have lacked over the last few seasons. Fortunately, analysts and scouts believe that McMillan has the hands to be able to get off the ball quickly and make contested catches down the field.”
McMillan might be the best pure receiver in the draft. However, Hunter’s two-way ability might have him higher on teams’ draft boards. McMillan had 1,319 yards last season, leading the Big 12. He also scored eight touchdowns en route to being named an All-American.
