Patrick Mahomes injury update: Latest news on Chiefs QB after exiting early vs. Browns

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is out of the game late in Week 15 against the Browns. After being tackled awkwardly on a jumping pass attempt, he limped off the field with help from an offensive lineman and a trainer.

One Browns defender wrapped up Mahomes’ legs before another tackled him high, causing the quarterback to bend weirdly. He had been taking big hits all game, and he had been slow to get up a few times. After the injury, Mahomes was shown getting his ankle taped on the sidelines.

Here are the latest injury updates for Mahomes in Week 15.

Patrick Mahomes injury update

Mahomes has been listed as “questionable” to return by the Chiefs and was diagnosed with an ankle injury. When Kansas City came out for its next drive, Carson Wentz was at QB while Mahomes watched from the sidelines in no apparent pain.

Cleveland was down two scores with less than four minutes left, so the benching may be cautionary more than anything, but since it is Mahomes, there is still concern for his ankle.

Mahomes never returned to the game. Wentz helped to burn the clock, and then Cleveland backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw a late interception to seal the win for the Chiefs.

Initially, Mahomes was seen walking around after the game. Then, he left the locker room riding on a cart.

Head coach Andy Reid said after his postgame press conference that Mahomes’ ankle is not broken but that it is just sore.

They believe that Mahomes is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, and he is considered week-to-week.
