Padres’ two-time All-Star pitcher receives $80 million contract prediction

The San Diego Padres are one of the most interesting teams to follow this MLB offseason. They have so many different key decisions to make at important positions like starting pitcher, first base, left field, and relief pitching.

On the reliever front, Robert Suarez is expected to opt out of his current deal and test free agency, and is going to be one of the more highly-touted reliever options in the reliever market.

What is Robert Suarez’s contract evaluation?

According to MLB insider and The Athletic writer Jim Bowden, Padres’ electric closer Robert Suarez’s predicted contract is 4 years, $80 million.

Suarez is a back-to-back All-Star selection and led the NL with 40 saves this season. That gives him 76 total saves in the last two seasons, and his ERA in both 2024 and 2025 has been under 3.00 in 60+ innings.

Other teams that Bowden indicates might be a good fit alongside the Padres are the Mets, Yankees, and Detroit Tigers.

Robert Suarez and the Mets’ closer Edwin Diaz are expected to be the top two options at the reliever position this free agency period.

The 2026 MLB free agency period opens up shortly after the World Series concludes, and it will be interesting to see how the Padres handle Suarez’s contract negotiations.
