The San Diego Padres received a devastating blow to their bullpen on Monday after news of star reliever Jason Adam suffering a severe quad injury against the Orioles.
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Padres 4-3 on Monday night, handing the Padres their fifth loss in the past seven games. In the seventh inning, reliever Jason Adam landed really awkwardly after a hard comebacker by the Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson.
Padres’ Jason Adam injury revealed
It was revealed directly following the conclusion of the contest that Jason Adam suffered a ruptured quad tendon and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Adam went down with what looked to be a significant leg injury, and the All-Star reliever is expected to miss the rest of the season. The injury cart had to be brought onto the field, and Adam was carted off and could not leave under his own power.
Manager Mike Shildt provided the injury prognosis following the game:
“Our prognosis early is not favorable,” Shildt said. “I mean, things can change, but it’s a quad tendon rupture. It’s pretty clear and pretty serious.”

No doubt a brutal blow for the backend of the Padres bullpen. With the loss, the Padres drop 0.5 games in the NL West standings, as the Dodgers did not play today, so the Padres are now 2.5 games back of first place.
2025 marked the first time Jason Adam was named an All-Star. In 64.2 innings this season, Adam has posted a 1.81 ERA and 69 strikeouts. He isn’t the Padres’ closer, but he’s been one of the best relievers in all of MLB. In those 64.2 innings, Adam has given up just four long balls.
As the Padres have hopes of a deep October run, they will have to do so without Jason Adam.
