The San Diego Padres once had one of the top farm systems in Major League Baseball and will look to rebuild it again sometime in the near future. With the MLB draft approaching, holding the 25th overall pick, the Padres will have several options to get creative.
When searching for potential options for the Padres to select in the upcoming MLB draft, Just Baseball recently predicted that they’d take Slater de Brun, a 2025 high school graduate who was a member of the 18U USA Team a year ago.
“This may be a very interesting spot in this draft. Yes, the Padres love preps, but they’ve also got the third-lowest bonus pool total in this class. This may handicap them from going for a big fish.
“However, de Brun seems to be a realistic option. It’s a toolshed from the left side that’s eerily similar to Slade Caldwell from a year ago. Time will tell how things shake out here, but there are a few college options to consider here for once,” they wrote.
De Brun is widely regarded as one of the top high school prospects in the country and is committed to Vanderbilt.

With his commitment to Vanderbilt, it might be tough to poach him from the Commodores, but the Padres have $3.6 million in slot value to hope he takes the money.
According to Perfect Game, he’s the 13th-ranked high school player in the country and the No. 1 outfielder in the state of Oregon.
More known for his contact and speed tool, de Brun would be an intriguing candidate to pair with Jackson Merrill one day.
