The San Diego Padres are heading into the offseason in search of a new manager. Mike Shildt, who had been with the club for the last two seasons, announced his retirement earlier this month.
During his two seasons with San Diego, Shildt led the club to two seasons with 90+ wins and made the postseason twice. Now, they will look for someone to take them over the hump and win their first World Series ever.
There are some interesting candidates for the job, but none more interesting than Albert Pujols. The club has been rumored to be interested in having him as a manager, but they are not the only team interested in having an 11-time All-Star as their skipper. The Baltimore Orioles are also keen on giving him the job.
Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. offers two-word take on Albert Pujols managerial rumors
Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of the leaders on this Padres club. His abilities on the field and leadership in the dugout are something every manager would love to have.
He was recently asked if he believes the club would sign Pujols, and if so, whether he would be happy playing under him. His response was short, but it got straight to the point, via HOY Newspaper’s Franklin Mirabal.
“Of course.”
There was no need to elaborate any further. Tatis is all in on Pujols becoming the club’s newest skipper.
Pujols has already interviewed with the team. So now, it is just a waiting game. They cannot wait too long, or another team will certainly steal him away.
