Packers WR Christian Watson impresses with major strides in ACL recovery

The Green Bay Packers have been working to figure out their defensive strategy—especially following the recent release of cornerback Jaire Alexander. With several question marks on defense heading into the season, the team must continue evaluating which positions need the most attention.

On the offensive side of the ball, one area that could see growth is the wide receiver room. Whether through trades or new deals, decisions will need to be made—if not this year, then certainly by next year. One bright spot is the addition of Matthew Golden, selected in the first round. The Packers now have long-term control of a young receiver who’s already earning praise from teammates.

“Oh, man. Kid’s a stud,” Doubs said Tuesday, via Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com. “Doesn’t say much, but he just comes in and works. He’s been real consistent in that area…kid is playing fast right now, so I’m excited to see it.”

Many are predicting Golden to be one of the top rookie wide receivers this season. However, the team also faces uncertainty surrounding Christian Watson.

“This leaves his future with the Packers somewhat up in the air. Finding a compromise on a contract to keep him on the team in 2026 and beyond projects to be difficult, and depends greatly on how quickly and effectively he can return to his pre-injury form,” wrote Packers Wire’s Mark Oldacres.

Watson is recovering from an ACL injury, and the timeline for his return could vary. Still, a recent update is promising.

“On Friday, he shared an Instagram video of himself sprinting and running routes—his most active showing yet since the injury,” reported Athlon Sports’ Felipe Reis Aceti.

Watson remains a key piece of the Packers’ wide receiver corps. If he returns strong and puts together an impressive season, a contract extension could very well be on the table. Quarterback Jordan Love would no doubt welcome several more years of chemistry with a fully healthy Watson.
