The Packers have been searching for years for a perfect wide receiver to pair with quarterback Jordan Love. Rookie Matthew Golden could be the answer.
The new weapon in Green Bay is projected to be one of the best rookie receivers in this year’s class. Golden, drafted 23rd overall out of Texas, had a mild preseason through two games, but he came out firing in Saturday’s matchup against the Seahawks.
Early in the first quarter, backup quarterback Malik Willis threw a laser down the right sideline at Golden. He made a diving, bobbling catch with a defender draped on him for a 39 yard reception.

It’s the type of play Packers fans have been searching for from guys like Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and others, but Golden is proving early on he is capable of making big plays.
He collected 58 catches for 987 yards and 9 touchdowns last season as a Longhorn. He’s shown the ability to play like a primary target in college and now the next challenge is to prove he can lead the Packers’ wide receivers.
The moment comes with a caveat that Jordan Love was not on the delivery end of the play but it still bodes well for the future of the wide receiver corps in Green Bay.
