The Green Bay Packers are not terribly far off from being a serious Super Bowl contender. However, they have more work to do.
Brian Gutekunst will need to address a few weaknesses across the roster. One of those weaknesses comes at the wide receiver position.
That isn’t to say that the Packers are bad at the position. In fact, they have quite a few talented wideouts on the roster. What they do not have is a true clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver for franchise quarterback Jordan Love.
During the offseason, there are quite a few rumors about Green Bay adding a top-tier wide receiver.
With that being said, the Packers have been presented with a huge early offseason opportunity to make a big-time move at the position.
According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets have opened up trade discussions regarding star wide receiver Davante Adams. If they don’t find a trade suitor for him, he will likely be released.
Sources: The #Jets are now taking calls on star WR Davante Adams, open to trading him prior to the start of the league year. No surprise with his $38.2M cap number.

In order to make sure that they don’t have to compete with other teams for an Adams reunion, they could consider trading for him.
Adams ended up putting together a strong 2024 season between the Las Vegas Raiders and Jets. He played in 14 games, catching 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns.
Adding that kind of production into an already good Green Bay offense might be the missing piece to the puzzle. Love would have the best weapon that he has ever had and the offense as a whole would open up.
While the move would make a ton of sense, the Packers may not end up pursuing it aggressively. But, if they want Adams, trading for him early would be the best way to make sure it happens.
