Packers-Giants trade proposal sends $31 million young pass rusher with 21 sacks to Green Bay

The offseason talk coming out of Green Bay has centered on Jaire Alexander, especially with both sides attempting to reach a contract agreement that would be beneficial. However, the Packers made a shocking decision to release the cornerback, not even receiving any assets in return.

GM Brian Gutekunst was quick to explain the reasoning behind parting ways with Alexander. The cornerback has spent his entire career in Green Bay, but now it’s time for a change of scenery.

“Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met in person with CB Jaire Alexander on Sunday one last time, presumably giving him one last chance to restructure/reduce his contract and when he refused, Alexander was released from the team the next morning. Jaire has yet to comment this offseason,” Packers reporter Mike Clemens wrote.

Alexander’s father revealed that the Packers were unable to offer any guaranteed money, which he sees as a form of disrespect.

“To not have any guarantees in there was where we had the issue. It wasn’t actually the dollar amount, it was the no guaranteed money,” his father said. “It’s kind of insulting to come to a two-time All-Pro, and somebody who gave blood, sweat, and tears to you, and to not have any guarantees.”

The Packers are not finished making defensive moves. A trade could still happen that adds or subtracts from the roster. In Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox’s trade proposal, he suggests Green Bay could land a superstar at a position of need in Kayvon Thibodeaux.

“The Green Bay Packers should also be interested in adding Thibodeaux. They only had one player (Rashan Gary) record more than five sacks last season and didn’t add any edge help this offseason before taking Barryn Sorrell in Round 4,” Knox wrote.

Green Bay is in dire need of a pass rusher, and acquiring Thibodeaux would be a huge boost. The move could improve their chances of winning the division or making a deep run in the playoffs.
