Pacers loosely connected to blockbuster trade for Suns’ Kevin Durant

The Indiana Pacers are once again one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference as the regular season winds down. After making a run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Pacers are hoping to take one step further and work their way into the NBA Finals.

While the focus is on the current season,, some are looking ahead to the offseason for Indiana. Kevin Pritchard and the front office will have some tough decisions to make.

First and foremost, the future of Myles Turner must be figured out. He is set to become a free agent and will not be cheap to bring back. Then, the Pacers will need to figure out how to further improve the roster.

Evan Sidery of Forbes has loosely suggested a wild offseason move that Indiana could consider. He thinks the Pacers need to consider another superstar to pair with Tyrese Haliburton. To that end, he mentioned Phoenix Suns forward and future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant.

“Watching Tyrese Haliburton tally 18 assists to 1 turnover tonight against the Lakers, continuing his historic playmaking stretch, the Pacers stand out as a team who should chase another star this summer,” Sidery wrote on X. “For example, imagine Kevin Durant being spoon fed easy looks by Haliburton on a consistent basis in the Eastern Conference. Indiana has the necessary picks and prospects to make an all-in title push.”

Durant heading to Indiana would instantly make the Pacers one of the top teams to beat in the NBA.

There is no question that the idea of Durant to Indiana is enticing. However, the Pacers are not the kind of team to make a massive move like this would be.

Perhaps that has changed as Indiana continues to move closer to their first NBA championship. If Pritchard believes that the addition of Durant alongside Haliburton could power the Pacers to a title, he could consider pursuing the option.

All of that being said, almost every team across the league would like to acquire Durant. There are other teams who would be much more likely destinations for him. He also might not have any interest in a trade to Indiana, which would kill the trade talks before they even begin.
