Don’t look now, but the Baltimore Orioles might be coming to life.
On Father’s Day, the Orioles won, 11-2, over the Los Angeles Angels to complete a three-game sweep. They have won four of their last five games and have started June with a 9-4 record to spark some hope into the fanbase.
On Sunday, the Orioles somehow did it with several stars missing.
Adley Rutschman, Jackson Holliday, Colton Cowser, and Ryan O’Hearn were all out of the lineup on Sunday, but that didn’t matter.
After the game, Orioles manager Tony Mansolino had an honest take, per Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun.
“You sit down Jackson and Adley and O and Cowser, and you go out there and throw up 11 points on the board, it’s a really good day.”
Even with those stars missing, everybody except Luis Vazquez recorded a hit in the Baltimore starting lineup. Three players hit home runs, and four players had multiple hits in a well-balanced offensive attack.
Gary Sanchez continued his hot play with two hits, a home run and four RBI in an out-of-nowhere offensive outburst.
The Orioles have now improved their record to 30-40, and while it’s still a ways away from the Wild Card race, there is some excitement in Baltimore after a sluggish start to the season.
The Orioles face the Tampa Bay Rays on the road in a three-game series starting on Monday before going to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees.
