The Baltimore Orioles have made a few frugal moves to bolster their roster for 2025. They’ve signed Tyler O’Neill to a three-year, $49.5 million contract and also signed right-hander Charlie Morton to a one-year, $15 million deal.
Still, Baltimore could use a little starting pitching, especially after they lost Corbin Burnes to the Arizona Diamondbacks. One way they can accomplish this is via a trade.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report notes that they could potentially swing a deal for New York Yankees starter Marcus Stroman by giving up left-hander Gregory Soto.
“The O’s can spare Soto. Félix Bautista will be back to close games this year, and they otherwise have two other lefty relievers in Keegan Akin and Cionel Pérez,” Rymer wrote.
“While Stroman certainly isn’t Corbin Burnes, he’d join Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano in their quest to replace the departed ace in the aggregate. To this end, Oriole Park at Camden Yards is another venue that is more forgiving than Yankee Stadium.”
The Orioles would be receiving a veteran arm that can benefit their rotation if this deal comes to pass. Stroman had a bit of a rough year with the Yankees in 2024, posting a 4.31 ERA in 29 starts and one relief appearance. He also went 10-9 and gave New York 154 2/3 innings.
The Yankees had given him a two-year, $37 million contract last offseason, so he, like Burnes, would be a one-year rental, assuming he doesn’t pick up his player option for 2026.
We’ll see if a deal materializes between these two teams.
