The Baltimore Orioles are off to a slow start in the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
Baltimore is 10-17 entering play on April 28 and is in last place in the AL East. The Orioles have struggled, and if the struggles continue, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic believes the team may trade three veterans.
“Is an Orioles turnaround possible? Sure. Would anyone bet on it based on the way the team is playing? Absolutely not. Which raises the question of how Elias might approach the deadline, which admittedly is still three months away,” Rosenthal wrote.
“If the Orioles fail to ignite, they could become an intriguing seller, trading potential free agents such as Eflin, center fielder Cedric Mullins, and reliever Seranthony Domínguez,” Rosenthal added. “Such a pivot, however, would further shrink their competitive window, which already is growing smaller as their young position players get closer to free agency. The Orioles have yet to sign any to extensions.”

Eflin would be a bottom-of-the-rotation arm on a playoff team. This season, he’s 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts. Mullins, meanwhile, has hit .279 with 6 home runs and 20 RBIs, and can be a starting outfielder or bench option, while Domínguez is 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 10 appearances and can be a middle of the bullpen arm.
All three players would likely be highly sought after if the Orioles do decide to sell. However, Rosenthal says Baltimore general manager Mike Elias doesn’t want to sell.
“Elias surely does not want to sell. The idea at this point was for the team to advance, not retreat,” Rosenthall added.
The 2025 MLB trade deadline is set for July 31.
