Oliver Glasner hails Crystal Palace ‘a better team’ without Arsenal star Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace have had a great start to the 2025/26 season as they have only suffered a solitary defeat in the Premier League after the first eight games.

The Eagles started their campaign with a FA Community Shield triumph over Liverpool on penalties and went on to replicate that form in the league season.

While they have registered some crucial wins, they have not maximized on them with four draws and therefore they are currently in eighth position in the league standings.

Palace are now gearing up to face Arsenal this weekend which will be tough test for them especially after they suffered a defeat against Larnaca in the midweek Conference League clash.

Heading in the game, Glasner claimed that the Eagles are much better team in terms of creativity after selling Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise to Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Both the players were crucial to Palace’s rise under Glasner in recent years before Olise moved to Bayern last summer and Eze left the team this season.

“In Eberechi, we lost a player who could decide games on his own with one situation,” Glasner told reporters. “Sometimes, especially after such an emotional game or such a disappointing defeat, it’s good to look at the facts. I always look at the stats and we have the highest xG in the Premier League.

“Crystal Palace, after selling Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze and bringing in Yeremy Pino and Ismaïla Sarr, have the highest xG in the whole Premier League in front of City, Arsenal, Liverpool and all these teams.

“This is a credit to the team, not to the individuals. The whole team. It just shows how much effort the team put in every single game.

“Yes, of course, everybody who likes Crystal Palace would like to have Michael and Ebs still in the squad. But on the other side, it shows that we can also create enough chances to score goals.

“But now, this is also what we have to learn and improve in giving the players time to be that efficient.

“We lost a fantastic player and even more fantastic person. Looking forward to seeing him, but no friendship during the game.”

Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal this summer

Eze established himself at Queens Park Rangers and later moved to Selhurst Park in August 2020 and went on to become one of the most influential players in the Crystal Palace’s history.

He scored the goal that helped them win the FA Cup against Manchester City etching his name in the history books for Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old moved to Arsenal this summer for an initial £60m ($80m) plus potential £7.5m add-ons. The England international has registered two assists and a solitary goal in 10 matches for the Gunners.

While he is still adjusting to life at the Emirates Stadium under Mikel Arteta, it will be interesting to see him playing against his former club on Sunday, October 26.
