It’s early in the season, but the Edmonton Oilers already have a surplus.
It’s never too early to make a solid upgrade if the opportunity presents itself, and so the Oilers could seek out a trade.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Oilers could look to move a defenseman to get a forward, given the Oilers’ depth on the back end.
Pro Hockey Rumors’ Bradley Keith takes it a step further by suggesting three possible players who could be sent out.
“Although fans may speculate on a bigger move, having locked up the likes of Walman and Mattias Ekholm for the future, a fairly less ground-breaking deal could be in order,” Keith writes. “Ty Emberson, Alec Regula, and Troy Stecher stand as an abundance of depth right handed blueliners, and perhaps, one of them could be on the way out at some point.”
Stecher is the oldest of that bunch at 31 years old, but he’s also on a cheap contract.
Emberson has been involved in past trade rumors but is still just 25.
Regula is currently out injured, and he’s played the least time for the Oilers since joining off of waivers last season.
Edmonton may wait until the Regula return just to ensure its full depth is in place, but a deal could be coming.
And if it brings in a forward who can get some goals, that’d be all the more exciting for Oilers fans.
