Oilers’ Connor McDavid sets speed milestone as fastest skater in the NHL

Connor McDavid is the best hockey player on the planet for a lot of different reasons.

It doesn’t hurt that there’s no faster skater in the NHL than the Edmonton Oilers’ superstar.

On Saturday, McDavid reached a maximum skating speed of 39.61 kilometers per hour.

That’s the fastest speed in the NHL so far in the young season, according to Sportsnet, which adds that it’s the second-fastest since this data began being tracked in 2021-22.

That must be so intimidating for an opposing defense.

McDavid at full throttle, with his great stick handling and passing and shooting, also coming at you faster than anyone else on the planet can.

It was a good night for McDavid to be fast, too. The Oilers were 3-1 winners over the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers scored a pair of goals in the second period, then capped it off with an empty-netter in the third.

McDavid got his third assist of the season when he dished on the empty-net goal to help Leon Draisaitl tally his second goal of the season.

The Oilers are just happy to have McDavid on their side. He was entering the final season of his contract in Edmonton before signing a two-year, $25 million extension to stick with the Oilers a few more years.

It’s not clear McDavid will stay around longer than that, but the Oilers will take it that they now have three years with McDavid (counting this one) rather than one.

He certainly isn’t slowing down.
