Michael Porter Jr. hasn’t been great for the Denver Nuggets at times. As of now, he remains the team’s top trade asset due to his contract, playing on a five-year, $179 million deal that will end after the 2026-27 season.
The Nuggets have multiple needs during the offseason, but moving Porter should be at the top of the priority list.
If the Nuggets could get back a decent player or two for him, it makes sense to move on from the Missouri product. It’s uncertain if the front office wants to trade him, but there are benefits in doing so.
In a proposed trade idea from Jackson Caudell of Sports Illustrated, Denver would deal him in a trade involving multiple other players. The trade would move on from Peyton Watson, Porter, Zeke Nnaji, Dario Saric, and Julian Strawther in a three-team deal.
In return, the Nuggets would get Tobias Harris, Terance Mann, Georges Niang, Simone Fontecchio, a 2029 second-round pick, and a 2031 second-round pick.

“They swap MPJ for Harris and add three better bench options to use. Mann, Fontecchio, and Niang are all veterans and would be upgraded over what they had. They keep their first-round picks and could use them to make other moves while also moving off of the Nnaji and Saric deals,” he wrote.
Now, moving on from Porter for the players involved makes sense. However, adding Watson and Strawther is where the Nuggets might be a bit hesitant.
Harris is an excellent professional, and Mann, Niang, and Fontecchio could all be rotation players.
However, the better plan might be to move on from Porter, and if they want to trade the two youngsters, do so in a different deal.
