The Denver Nuggets are hoping to return to the NBA Finals last they did two seasons ago. They were eliminated in the Western Conference Semi-Finals last year by the Dallas Mavericks.
This season, they’re the No. 3 seed in the West and haven’t quite been the same as they have the past couple of seasons. If things end like they did last season again this year, the Nuggets could be looking to make some moves.
One possible move proposed by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has the Nuggets acquiring Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond this offseason.
“A plug-and-play option like Drummond would be ideal, and he seems expendable if the Sixers would rather not keep his $5 million player option on the books,” Buckley wrote.
Due to most of their roster being under contract for next season, if Denver needs any upgrades it would have to be via trade. If they want to acquire Drummond from Philadelphia, they’ll have to include Dario Saric, or package a deal including players like Daron Holmes II and Julian Strawther.
If the Nuggets are looking to be active on the market this offseason, Buckley suggests a backup center is where they should look first.
“If Denver seeks out subtle upgrades, backup center feels like the right place to start. DeAndre Jordan is 36 years old and on an expiring deal, Zeke Nnaji has spent most of his first five seasons on the fringes of the rotation and 2024 first-round pick DaRon Holmes had his would-be rookie campaign wiped out by a torn Achilles,” Buckley added.
The opportunity to add a four-time rebound champion and two-time All-Star in Drummond would be a great way to bring back that winning mentality to Denver. He would also attribute some rebounding help off the bench. They’re 4th in the league in rebounding but adding Drummond could put them over the top.
Philadelphia will likely be accepting all sorts of offers this offseason. Drummond’s contract is one that is easily expendable, so the trade works for both parties.
