After a star-studded career that saw him named to 10 NBA All-Star Games and also secure the 2013 NBA scoring title, former Denver Nuggets small forward Carmelo Anthony is finally taking his rightful place in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2025.
And at his request, he chose fellow NBA Hall of Famer and former teammate Allen Iverson to be one of two presenters at his induction.
AI could have just answered in private, but the former MVP would take to his Instagram and express his gratitude for “Melo” choosing him, posting a picture of the two of them posing in their uniforms for the 2008 All-Star Game in New Orleans.
The caption underneath the pair read, “Congratulations Bro! I’m HONORED and blessed to be chosen to welcome you into the Hall of Fame! @carmeloanthony #HOF”
Iverson, the no. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, was traded to the Nuggets during the 2006-07 season, where Carmelo Anthony was beginning his ascension to NBA stardom.
Iverson’s best season while alongside Anthony in the Mile High City was the only full season he played with the Nuggets, the 2007-08 season, which saw him start and play all 82 games while averaging 26.4 points, just more than Anthony’s 25.7, resulting in the team going 50-32 on the season before being eliminated by Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs.
During the 2008-09 season, after just three games played with the Nuggets, Iverson was traded to Detroit, and would later retire from professional basketball in 2011, and was enshrined himself into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
