In a rematch of the Paris 2024 Olympics gold medal match, Alcaraz will be out for revenge after the Serbian champion beat him on clay at Roland-Garros.

Alcaraz has won their last two meetings at majors – both in Wimbledon finals – but he is 0-2 against Djokovic on hardcourt.

Novak Djokovic vs. Carlos Alcaraz prediction

Do quarter-finals get any better than this? The old generation versus the new generation in an epic battle on Rod Laver Arena.

Djokovic has seemed to get better every match since his season started – with a shock loss to Reilly Opelka in Brisbane highlighting his rustiness.

After dropping a set each against Nishesh Basavareddy and Jaime Faria through his first two matches at Melbourne Park, Djokovic has looked near his best in straight set wins over Tomas Machac and Jiri Lehecka.

Now the Serbian champion is going to be even more fired up after his boycott of host broadcaster Channel 9 and the heckling he is receiving from the crowd.

Alcaraz has cruised his way through four tricky opponents, dropping only a set against the likes of Alexander Shevchenko, Yoshihito Nishioka, Nuno Borges and Jack Draper.

His serve speed is up 10km/h on his delivery at Melbourne Park last year and he looks primed to go past the quarters for the first time at the Australian Open.

Prediction: Djokovic in five sets

It just feels like Djokovic is reaching the peak of his powers in this tournament for this match.

He has showed he can beat Alcaraz against the odds before, with his gold medal win on clay simply extraordinary.

You just can’t back against Djokovic in Australia – and he is always value as an underdog.
