Nottingham Forest vs. Man United lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news, injuries: Red Devils returning from injury

Nottingham Forest play host to Manchester United on Tuesday as they look to continue their surprise push for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team begin this latest Premier League matchday in third place in the standings, just four points behind Arsenal in second and with a six-point cushion to Manchester City in fifth.

They battled past Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup on Saturday, coming through on penalties after 120 goalless minutes. Morale within the group is undoubtedly sky high, although the physical effects of that game will be something Nuno has to manage carefully this week.

United have not played since a 3-0 win at Leicester City on March 16, the Red Devils having been eliminated from the FA Cup in the last round by Fulham. Ruben Amorim has seen a handful of first-team players return to training in recent days, which will be a boost to the United coach as he attempts to continue their improved recent form.

However, United will undoubtedly have one eye on the looming Manchester derby in early April, plus the Europa League quarterfinal first leg with Lyon.

Chris Wood missed the FA Cup quarterfinal with Brighton after suffering a blow to his hip during New Zealand’s World Cup qualifying match with New Caledonia during the international break. The striker is not expected to be back for this game.

Ramon Sosa was also fatigued after playing for Paraguay, but he could be available for this one.

Nuno will need to assess his squad after the Brighton game went the distance. Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi should start after only coming on in the second half, but changes may be needed elsewhere.

Back-up goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are also available for selection after spending much of the past month out of action.

Mason Mount has been training for the past two weeks and could also make the matchday squad for the first time since suffering a muscle injury in the Manchester derby in December. Patrick Dorgu is available again after missing three domestic matches due to suspension.

Man United predicted lineup (3-4-2-1, right to left): Onana (GK) — De Ligt, Maguire, Mazraoui — Dalot, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu — Fernandes, Zirkzee — Hojlund
