Nine-time All-Star praises Mavericks’ roster ahead of Cooper Flagg’s rookie year

The Dallas Mavericks have one of the most interesting rosters in the league, and there is no shortage of outcomes for them next season.

Over a week into free agency, the Mavericks have had a relatively quiet offseason since drafting Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in June. Still, the team has made some small moves, such as signing D’Angelo Russell and re-signing Dante Exum.

Still, most of the Mavericks’ work to build a contending roster was done well before the offseason started. Of course, the big splash was when Dallas traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers to bring in Anthony Davis.

On a recent episode of Podcast P, NBA All-Star Paul George had some nice things to say about what Dallas has built.

“When you think about a team being constructed with what Cooper can bring, with a healthy Kyrie [Irving] coming back, probably more later, second half of the season,” George said. “D-Lo’s proven to be a veteran point guard. You still got one of the best elite shooters in Klay [Thompson]. Then, one of the most efficient bigs that we’ve ever seen in [Daniel] Gafford. Not to mention a top-five player in AD.”

Clearly, George is a fan of what the Mavericks can bring to the table next season. While GM Nico Harrison will continue to be criticized for trading Doncic back in February, players around the league seem to see the vision for what Harrison is creating in Dallas.

As George gears up for his second season with the Philadelphia 76ers, he seems to believe that the Mavericks could be a legitimate factor in the 2026 title race.
