The flailing Houston Texans are in danger of not having their best wide receiver for the Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers, as Nico Collins is dealing with a concussion.
Collins suffered the injury in the ugly Week 7 loss against the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran wideout sustained the injury after his head hit the turf hard while he was trying to reel in a pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud in the fourth quarter.
Over the first two days of this week, Collins has not been able to practice, which is a bad sign for his Week 8 availability.
On Thursday, Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com provided an update on Collins’ expected status for the Sunday contest against San Francisco.

END OF UPDATE
According to Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com, Collins is not expected to play on Sunday against the 49ers. Fellow wideout Christian Kirk, who is working through a hamstring injury, is also expected to sit out.
“Texans Nico Collins (concussion), Christian Kirk (hamstring) didn’t practice, again, and not expected to play against 49ers,” Wilson reported on Thursday.
Not much of a surprise that Collins won’t play given his inability to practice and the fact that head coach DeMeco Ryans expressed concern for him on Tuesday.
“We’ll see how the week goes. Nico is one of our best players. It’s concerning. Some things you can’t control and try to do the best you possibly can,” Ryans said.
This obviously leaves the Texans’ wide receivers room very short-handed, with the team set to rely on unproven pass-catchers like Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins.
Houston will also lean heavily on veteran tight end Dalton Schultz, who is now the team’s best and most established pass-catcher with Collins and Kirk sidelined.
“He’s super reliable, not only just on the field, but off the field,” quarterback C.J. Stroud said of his tight end. “He’s somebody that I talk to about a lot of different things and he’s been great.”
“Dude, every time every time you go out you’re trying to make plays for a quarterback, trying to make plays for a team,” Schultz said. “To answer your question, that’s exactly what we try to do.”
Houston and San Francisco will kick off from NRG Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
