The presence of the 4 Nations Face-Off gave the NHL what almost felt like two separate trade deadlines this season. A handful of teams scrambled to make moves before the February break, and some were significant.
From the Hurricanes’ stunning acquisition of Mikko Rantanen to the Rangers’ reunion with J.T. Miller, some business was settled well ahead of the actual March 7 deadline. That doesn’t mean the action is done.
Already traded once this season, Rantanen might be the player to watch ahead of the deadline. With reports indicating Carolina could look to flip the former Avalanche star if he doesn’t agree to a long-term extension, the biggest deadline deal could involve the same player at the center of the season’s top blockbuster move.
Elsewhere, Brock Boeser, Brock Nelson and Ryan Donato are some of the names who could find themselves on the move before the clock strikes zero.
