Keith was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2002 Draft and spent all but his final season in Chicago (2005-21). He became an alternate captain in 2007-08 and stayed part of the Jonathan Toews-led group until his franchise departure.
Over 1,256 NHL games, Keith racked up 106 goals, 646 points, a +159, 675 penalty minutes, 2 Norris trophies, and garnered consistent Lady Byng votes.
The defensive leader of the Blackhawks’ dynasty, Keith brought shutdown skills on the back end, primarily against opposing top lines. Along with his partner, Brent Seabrook, Chicago had one of the best defensive pairs in the league and always looked prepared for the trials of playoff hockey.
After winning Stanley Cups in 2010 and 2013, Keith was on a mission to secure the team’s place in history. During their 2015 run, he recorded 3 goals and a playoff-leading 18 assists and won the Conn Smythe. Keith recorded the series-clinching goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 that year.
Keith was also a fixture on Canada’s National Team, winning Gold Medals at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
He was named to the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players list back in 2017, and his induction to the Hall should come as a surprise to no one. Keith was a generation-defining defenseman and deserves to have his name enshrined forever.
