NFL trade: San Francisco 49ers land wide receiver from Kansas City Chiefs

The San Francisco 49ers have struck a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to bring in wide receiver Skyy Moore, giving them a much-needed option at a position that has been crushed by injuries and setbacks.

49ers make move for help at receiver

San Francisco’s depth chart has taken one hit after another this preseason. Brandon Aiyuk is still working his way back from a knee injury. Jauan Jennings has been slowed by a lingering calf problem. Jordan Watkins is sidelined with a high ankle sprain that could keep him out for weeks. To add to the issues, veteran DeMarcus Robinson is unavailable while serving a three-game suspension.

The combination of those absences left the 49ers scrambling for answers. Moore, a former second-round pick, now steps into a situation where immediate playing time is available. His speed and ability to stretch the field could give quarterback Brock Purdy a much-needed target, especially if Aiyuk is limited early in the season.

Moore’s time in Kansas City never fully matched expectations after being drafted in 2022. He showed flashes in big moments, including a touchdown in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia, but he struggled to carve out a consistent role in the Chiefs’ offense.

Now, the 49ers are banking on Moore finding his footing in Kyle Shanahan’s system. With so many injuries piling up, San Francisco had little choice but to seek outside help, and Moore arrives with both opportunity and pressure waiting for him.

The final preseason game for the Chiefs is Friday night at home against the Bears. San Francisco finishes on Saturday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.
