NFL star throws shade at Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston

The biggest storyline from the 2025 NFL draft was Shedeur Sanders’ stunning fall down the board. One team that passed on Sanders was the New York Giants, and when discussing Sanders’ slide in the draft, Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson threw shade at their quarterback duo of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.

After signing Wilson and Winston in free agency, New York was set at quarterback for the 2025 campaign. However, it was clear that they could still opt to select a quarterback to develop behind the scenes, which they did when they traded back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 overall pick.

The Giants could have selected Sanders as he slid down the board and taken another shot at finding their quarterback of the future, but they made their feelings known when they drafted Dart over Sanders. For the 2025 campaign, though, Jefferson thinks New York will regret passing on Sanders because of their current QB situation.

“I mean, New York doesn’t really have a quarterback,” Jefferson said when discussing why he thinks New York made a mistake by not drafting Sanders.

In 2024 with the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, while also leading all FBS-I passers with a completion percentage of 74%.

While the Giants did not select Sanders, another quarterback-needy team Jefferson listed, the Cleveland Browns, ended up selecting him with the No. 144 pick in the fifth round. Sanders will now compete with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel for the Browns starting quarterback gig.
