Who would be in the 2024-2025 NFL playoffs ahead of Super Bowl 59 based on the current AFC and NFC standings?

With fewer than two weeks left in the regular season, here’s an updated look at who would be in, who would be out, and where all the potential postseason teams would be seeded going into Week 17

POWER RANKINGS: Lions, Vikings, Rams rise; Eagles, Steelers, Broncos fall for Week 17

NFL standings for Week 17

AFC playoff picture

1. Kansas City Chiefs 15-1 (champions, AFC West): The Chiefs clinched the top seed, home-field advantage, and only bye in the AFC playoffs with their win over the Steelers on Christmas.

2. Buffalo Bills 12-3 (champions, AFC East): The Bills can’t be the top seed anymore after the Chiefs clinched and will look to keep this position ahead of the Ravens after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker earlier in the season.

3. Baltimore Ravens 11-5 (first place, AFC North): The Ravens, who had already clinched a playoff berth, took first place back in the AFC North from the Steelers by a full game after winning at Houston while Pittsburgh lost to Kansas City on Christmas.

4. Houston Texans 9-7 (champions, AFC South). The Texans are locked into the No. 4 seed with their loss against the Ravens, and now it’s looking like they will have a tough playoff opener vs. the Steelers.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers 10-6 (second place, AFC North):  The Steelers, who have clinched a playoff spot, now need to win in Week 18 over the Bengals and a Ravens loss to the Browns to win the division.

6. Los Angeles Chargers 9-6 (second place, AFC West): The Chargers can clinch a wild-card playoff spot behind the Chiefs with either a win over the Patriots or losses by both the Dolphins and Colts.

7. Denver Broncos 9-6 (third place, AFC West): The Broncos also can clinch a wild-card spot with a win over the Bengals on Saturday.

Who’s in the hunt?

The Colts, Dolphins, and Bengals all need to win to stay in the wild-card race after Week 17, but all three teams would be eliminated if the Chargers win and the Broncos beat the Bengals.

NFC playoff picture

1. Detroit Lions 13-2 (first place, NFC North): The Lions have clinched a playoff berth. They can lock up a second straight division title with a win over the 49ers and a Vikings loss to the Packers in Week 17.

2. Philadelphia Eagles 12-3 (first place, NFC East): The Eagles have clinched a playoff spot and will clinch the division title with a win over the Cowboys or a Commanders loss to the Falcons.

3. Los Angeles Rams 9-6 (first place, NFC West) (first place, NFC West): The Rams can still win the division with a home win over the Cardinals despite the Seahawks winning, but it requires four of the Bengals, Commanders, Bills, Vikings, 49ers, and Browns to win to give them the strength of schedule tiebreaker.

4. Atlanta Falcons 8-7 (first place, NFC South): The Falcons would clinch the division with a win over the Commanders coupled with a Buccaneers’ loss to the Panthers.

5. Minnesota Vikings 13-2 (second place, NFC North): The Vikings will try to make the division title come down to the final week with a win over the Packers.

6. Green Bay Packers 11-4 (third place, NFC North): The Packers have joined the Lions, Eagles, and Vikings in clinching at least a wild-card playoff berth going into a big divisional game against Minnesota.

7. Washington Commanders 10-5 (second place, NFC East): The Commanders would clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Falcons or a Buccaneers loss to the Panthers.

Who’s in the hunt?

The Seahawks can only get into the playoffs as division champions and need a lot of help beyond the Rams losing. The Buccaneers will have to root for Washington over Atlanta if they beat Carolina earlier in the day.
