NFL insider refutes report on DK Metcalf’s landing spot preferences before Steelers trade

When it comes to rumors — especially this time of year — take everything you read with a grain of salt. If you believed everything you read lately, you would have never thought the Pittsburgh Steelers would acquire DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

That’s because, according to a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, one of the preferences Metcalf had for his next landing spot was a warm climate.

“Metcalf ideally wants to play in a warm weather climate and is looking to make $30m per year,” Russini reported.

While the Steelers were obviously able to appease Metcalf with the $30 million per year deal, they do not offer a year-round warm climate, and they don’t have a stable quarterback situation, either, which was another one of his reported preferences.

After reading that, Steelers fans figured their hopes of landing Metcalf were nil, but that obviously turned out not to be the case.

In the wake of the trade going down on Sunday night, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero refuted at least one of those reported preferences. Pelissero revealed that Metcalf’s agent said the warm climate was not part of the equation for him.

“(Metcalf) did not, according to his representation, say anything about playing in a warm climate,” Pelissero wrote on X. “Metcalf is all-in on playing in Pittsburgh and the rugged AFC North.”

While nobody would blame Metcalf for wanting to live someplace warm, it appears that was not a sticking point for him. The two-time Pro Bowler is coming from Seattle, so he’s no stranger to living and playing in the cold.

Whether or not the Steelers can provide a stable quarterback situation for Metcalf remains to be seen, though. But if the last few years are any indication, they won’t.
