NFL insider gives disappointing update on Jaire Alexander’s future with the Packers

The Green Bay Packers have quite a bit of work to do this offseason if they are to take the next step forward. They need a top-flight wide receiver and some help in the secondary, especially since it looks like star corner Jaire Alexander is on his way out.

Alexander has made the Pro Bowl twice in his seven seasons in the NFL. But he has had trouble staying healthy the last two seasons, and he has been the subject of trade rumors lately.

The hope is that a potential Alexander trade would net Green Bay a valuable draft pick or two. But according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, that may not happen, as it is now believed the team will end up merely releasing the 28-year-old.

“Meanwhile, two-time All-Pro Jaire Alexander is available via trade, although most executives believe the Packers will ultimately release him,” Schultz wrote.

If Alexander is healthy, he should still be able to be a useful player. Despite playing in just seven games in 2024, he recorded seven passes defended, two interceptions and one pick-six.

He has two years left on his current contract, which will result in a $25.5 cap hit for the Packers in 2025. Releasing him would mean trimming some of his dead cap money.

This news seems to imply that perhaps the Packers don’t feel they can receive a satisfactory return for Alexander in a potential trade.
