NFL analyst sees big season for Colts defender under Lou Anarumo

The Colts made a significant change to their coaching staff this offseason, firing defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and hiring Lou Anarumo, formerly of the Bengals, as his replacement.

Naturally, some players will benefit from the change, and one NFL analyst sees a big improvement ahead for one of Indy’s defensive backs.

NFL analyst Doug Farrar sees an opportunity for Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones to see a “major uptick” in his third season.

A former seventh-round pick in 2023, Jones has already been a success given where the Colts drafted him. The former Texas A&M Aggie started all 17 games in 2024, logging 2 interceptions and 12 passes defended.

With a more aggressive, disguise-based coverage scheme being implemented by Anarumo, Jones has a chance to take his game to the next level.

Jones still has to defend his starting job, however. JuJu Brents is back from a knee injury which kept him out for the majority of 2024 and 2025 third-round pick Justin Walley is a defender hand-picked by Anarumo to plug right into his scheme.

Regardless of the size of his role, Jones could end up being the biggest beneficiary of the Colts coaching change.
