Newcastle United prepare major move to secure key star amidst Man City’s interest

When Newcastle United made a bold move to sign Tino Livramento in 2023, many doubted whether a fullback returning from a long-term knee injury could justify a £32 million [$43m] price tag.

Yet for those inside the club, it was never a gamble but it was a belief in potential.

And that belief has paid off with the 22-year-old becoming a vital figure in Eddie Howe’s system, playing on both flanks when required, and even earned a senior England call-up before returning to the Under-21s at the request of manager Lee Carsley to help defend their European crown.

His maturity, versatility and growing defensive presence have caught the attention of Pep Guardiola, whose Manchester City side are actively searching for a replacement for Kyle Walker following his move to Burnley.

Newcastle are not willing to lose another pillar of their future plans without a fight.

Newcastle plan to reward Livramento by making him one of their highest earners

According to The Times, Newcastle are preparing to offer Livramento a new six-year contract that would place him among the club’s best-paid players, despite his current deal already running until 2028.

The move is not being driven by necessity but rather by strategy, with the club aiming to show players like Livramento and Alexander Isak that their long-term future lies in the northeast not under brighter lights elsewhere.

City are reportedly said to be ready to offer £65m [$88m] for Livramento, but Newcastle are banking on belief in their project to keep him at St. James’ Park.
