Newcastle United plotting a move for Serie A star as their primary defensive target

Newcastle United are looking to bolster their roster this summer, and so they are looking to sign multiple players.

While they continue to chase players in the forwardline, Eddie Howe is also keen to bolster their back line as they will feature in the Champions League next season.

According to recent reports via The Athletic’s Martin Hardy suggest that the Magpies are considering Atalanta defender Giorgio Salvini as their primary defensive target.

Howe is reportedly a big admirer of the young Italian centre-back and would love to bring him to Newcastle now that the Marc Guehi deal is off the cards.

The Italy international has recently recovered from a serious ACL injury and is extremely valued at Atalanta. So it would be a big ask for Newcastle to lure him.

Before his injury, Scalvini was considered one of the most talented Italian defenders of this generation. So current condition will be assessed before allowing him to move to the Premier League.

Newcastle are also working on deals as they are chasing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and James Trafford from Burnley to fortify their attack and goalkeeping spots.

How much could Scalvini cost Newcastle United?

Several reports have suggested that Newcastle United could sign Saclvini for something as low as £30m ($41m).

But given his potential and talent, it would take a lot more to tempt Atalanta to sell one of their prized defensive asset despite his recent injury concerns.

Scalvini is seen as a defender who could be a mainstay for Newcastle, considering the majority of their centre-backs are in their 30s.

The 21-year-old will get enough chances to play as Newcastle United will play in four competitions and Howe would need as much depth as possible.

There’s hardly any hype around the Italian defender this summer as he is returning from injury.

Newcastle should act quickly and snap him up this summer rather than waiting for the January window, where other clubs could also join the Magpies in pursuit of the Italian.
