Newcastle United launch historic offer to keep star away from Premier League rivals

Newcastle United are fighting to hold on to Alexander Isak as Liverpool prepare to make a move for one of the Premier League’s top strikers.

The Premier League champions are reportedly preparing a potential bid for the Swedish striker in early July after smashing the British transfer record with a £116 million [$157m] swoop for Florian Wirtz.

The Reds are now targeting a world-class No. 9 and see Isak as the ideal candidate.

The Swede has scored over 20 league goals in each of the last two seasons. The Athletic Bilbao product is reportedly admired not only at Anfield but also by Barcelona and Arsenal.

But Newcastle are not playing the role of willing sellers and are preparing to break their bank to keep the star at St. James Park.

Newcastle to offer biggest contract in club history

As reported by The Times, to keep Isak, Newcastle are ready to break their own rules. They are preparing to offer him the biggest contract in the club’s history.

According to Capology, Isak currently earns £120,000 [$163,371] per week. The new deal would move him above the £150,000 [$204,205] mark, more than what Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon earn.

Bruno Guimaraes is the highest-paid player at Newcastle at £160,000 [$217,774] a week. Isak could soon join or surpass him.

Isak’s agent paused contract talks last summer, and the discussions haven’t restarted yet.

There is no sign that Isak wants to leave, but Newcastle are worried about Liverpool’s interest.

Newcastle want to build around Isak. They are not looking for a replacement. In fact, they are in the market for a strike partner.
