Newcastle United are moving fast in the transfer market; after wrapping up a deal for Spanish forward Antonio Cordero, the Tyneside side has now reportedly secured teenage striker Alfie Hutchison from Rangers.
The club is now close to landing a new goalkeeper, with talks with Burnley for James Trafford reaching an advanced stage, and everything points to a deal being finalized soon.
Even though Eddie Howe already has Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, in his squad, he has been pushing for fresh competition in goal, and from the beginning of the transfer window, Trafford was viewed as the top target.
Newcastle made a £25m [$34m] bid earlier this week that Burnley turned down, but that didn’t stop them, and the Magpies quickly agreed to personal terms with Trafford and stayed in negotiations with Burnley.

Trafford has just come off an excellent season in the Championship, where he helped Burnley secure promotion, keeping 29 clean sheets in 45 appearances and conceding only 16 goals, which put him among the best-performing goalkeepers in the league.

Although Pope is expected to remain first choice for now, Trafford will be pushing hard. He struggled during Burnley’s last stint in the Premier League, but a year of growth has prepared him for the challenge.
