Newcastle United ahead of Jose Mourinho in Serie A striker race

Newcastle United are looking to bring in a new striker this summer, with Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic on their rumoured shortlist, despite stiff competition from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

Vlahovic, 25, who joined Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022 for a whopping €80m [$90m] hasn’t matched expectations in two and a half seasons in Turin.

His spell at Serie A side has been plagued by injuries, tactical changes and overall inconsistent form in front of goal.

The Serbia international has scored 28 Serie A goals in 76 league games, a low-key return, that does not justify his hefty wages.

With just 12 months left on his contract, Juventus are weighing up their options with  Gazzetta dello Sport confirming new sporting director Damien Comolli will decide the forward’s fate.

The club want to renegotiate his contract to spread costs, but Vlahovi and his camp have pushed back, which opens the door for a summer exit.

Newcastle are on the hunt for a No.9 with UEFA Champions League experience and Vlahovic could be a perfect fit. Their improved PSR position makes the Magpies serious contenders despite a long-standing link to the Turkish Super Lig.

Fenerbahçe, fresh off another second-place league finish under boss Jose Mourinho, want to bring in a marquee striker after losing Edin Dzeko.

Galatasaray are also circling around Vlahovic with Victor Osimhen’s loan spell ending and the Nigerian returning to Napoli.

Newcastle interested two Serie A stars

Alongside interest in Vlahovic, Newcastle are also looking at another Serie A striker – as reported by TBR Football via The Hard Tackle – with Eddie Howe open to bringing England international Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League.

The former Chelsea forward could be available this summer, after spending the 2024/25 season on loan at AC Milan, with parent club AS Roma unconvinced.

Despite showing flashes of form in Serie A, Abraham does not appear to fit in Claudio Ranieri evolving plans, and that could give Howe an alterative option to Vlahovic.
