Newcastle United have endured a frustrating transfer window, as they have struggled to secure their targets, despite having UEFA Champions League football on offer.
They have only signed Anthony Elanga so far, and are gaining ground on securing the signature of Malick Thiaw, to fortify an injury impacted defence.
According to reports from John Percy of the Daily Telegraph, the Magpies are pushing to bring in Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss.
Eddie Howe will be directly fighting for the 21-yar-old up against Leeds United, who are also keen on securing the 21-year-old.
Howe needs depth in the final third, and El Khannouss could be a ‘cost effective’ option in the market, considering his ability to play as a No.10 and cover on the flanks.
El Khannouss has a reported release clause of £24.5m [$32.8m] at the King Power Stadium which makes the deal more viable for Newcastle and other suitors interested in the Moroccan.

Who is Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss?
El Khannous is one of the most talented players in the Leicester setup despite only managing Premier League goals in his debut 2024/25 campaign.
Despite Leicester’s relegation in May, El Khannouss caught the eye across 36 appearances in all competitions with an overall total of three goals and five assists.
He continued the form from last season as he registered a couple of assists for the Foxes in their first Championship 2025/26 clash where they won 2-1 over Sheffield Wednesday.
In the right setup, he has the qualities to develop into an absolute superstar and given Howe’s track record, it could be a beneficial move for all parties involved.
Considering his skills and the release clause, it will be a huge task for Leicester to keep hold of one of their most prized possessions beyond the summer transfer window.
