Newcastle United have been dealt a fresh blow as Arsenal have joined the pursuit for Crystal Palace’s captain, Marc Guehi.
The England international, who recently lifted the FA Cup with Palace, is entering the final year of his contract, and top Premier League clubs have started to circle.
Football Insider reported in February that Arsenal and Liverpool had joined Newcastle in the race.
According to Arsenal True Fans, “Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is exploring options to bring in a new central defender this summer, with the intention of complementing his trusted first-choice pairing of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.”
Some sources suggest Guehi is keen on Champions League football but also wants regular first-team football to consolidate his place in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
Financially, Guehi could now be a more realistic target for Premier League clubs.

Football Transfers noted, “Arsenal believe that Guehi could be a relatively affordable option as he only has a year left to run on his Crystal Palace contract. He has so far shown no signs of wanting to extend his stay at Selhurst Park.”
His price tag has reportedly dropped from £70 million to a potential £40-45 million, per The Express.
Open race for Guehi as big clubs lurk
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke confirmed that there is no clear favorite for Guehi’s signature, but the competition is heating up.
“Right now, I wouldn’t say there are any clear favorites for him. I think it’s an open race,” O’Rourke said on Football Insider’s podcast.
“We know Newcastle are long-term admirers… Arsenal have also shown a bit of interest as well.”
Liverpool, although once interested, are now focusing on other areas. The key factor in this saga may boil down to Guehi’s vision.
“If he were to go to Arsenal, there’s no guarantee that he would be a regular starter,” O’Rourke added.
That’s a major consideration for a player with World Cup ambitions. Moreover, both Arsenal and Newcastle can offer Champions League football, which is a crucial factor in luring the Palace star.
“It could come down to the fees they are willing to pay because the player will not rush into a decision,” said O’Rourke.
Palace, meanwhile, have already begun looking for replacements, fully aware of Guehi’s likely departure. His exit could be sealed before preseason if a suitable bid arrives.
