The New York Jets have done a solid job building a talented roster over the last few years. The only position that’s plagued them has been the game’s most important — quarterback.
Perhaps that problem was solved this offseason with Justin Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million deal to break the curse.
But for Fields to have any success in 2025 and beyond, he’ll need wide receiver Garrett Wilson to emerge as one of the NFL’s truly elite playmakers.
Wilson is close to becoming that guy. In fact, it feels like the only thing stopping him from ascending into the tier of pass catchers like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase is the long-standing quarterback problem for Gang Green.

Aaron Rodgers was supposed to take Wilson to new heights. We know how that ended. And, in some ways, it’s hurt Wilson’s quest to become one of the highest paid players at his position.
Wilson is now eligible for a contract extension, and according to ESPN, the Jets and Wilson’s camp are in the early stages of working out a deal.
“Talks are in the early stages; this feels like a situation that will heat up in training camp,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported.
Wilson certainly wants a deal to get done, saying that he wants to be a “Jet for life.”
Despite the Jets’ passing game struggles, Wilson has somehow managed to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, including a career-high 1,104 yards in 2024. His seven touchdowns last season was the best total of his career, too.
Still, there’s so much untapped potential with Wilson, who, now that he’s teamed up with his former college QB, should shatter his numbers from 2024 this season.
