New York Jets sign son of ESPN analyst after tough cut day decision

The New York Jets had to make tough decisions on Tuesday’s NFL roster cutdown day.

They got the chance to remedy some of those on Wednesday when players cleared waivers and could be signed to the practice squad.

One of those players is Jordan Clark. He’s the son of ESPN analyst Ryan Clark (the former Steelers star safety), and he was back out at practice with the Jets on Wednesday afternoon after getting his practice squad contract, per multiple reports.

Clark, also a safety like his father, began his college career at Arizona State.

He played parts of five seasons with the Sun Devils. In 40 total games, he had 139 tackles, including seven for loss, while intercepting three passes.

Clark transferred to Notre Dame for his final year of college eligibility and went all the way to the national championship game with the Fighting Irish.

He played in 16 games for Notre Dame, totaling 37 tackles, including two for a loss. He also intercepted a pass and had five passes defensed.

Clark isn’t a big dude, measuring at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds. The odds were always long to make the 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent.

The Jets certainly see some potential in him, though, shown by their desire to keep him on the practice squad.

His father started his NFL career as a practice squad player, too, and he put together a lengthy tenure in the league.

Maybe son can follow in those footsteps.
