New York Giants predicted to focus major asset on protecting Jaxson Dart

As the wait for 2025 NFL training camps to open around the league continues to march on, early 2026 NFL mock drafts are beginning to make their rounds.

Expectations for a competitive 2025 season are realistic for New York Giants fans, but there’s a big difference between a year headlined by keeping games close and one that features a lot of wins.

Big Blue is certainly a better team today than they were at the end of their 2024 campaign, one that produced only three victories. But the Giants still have a long way to go before they can join the ranks of legitimate playoff contenders.

It’s why these early mock drafts have the New York Giants picking in the top 10, including the most recent first-round projection by Pro Football Sports Network, that has GM Joe Schoen on the clock at No. 5 overall.

As for the pick? It’s a consistent theme so far in these way-too-early NFL mock drafts: Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor.

“The New York Giants seem to think they have solved their quarterback problem in the form of Jaxson Dart,” PFSN wrote. “If the former Ole Miss QB succeeds in New York, the Giants will have to invest in protecting him, and they do so here in the form of Kadyn Proctor.”

Proctor is one of the early favorites to be a top-five pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and with the Giants having an obvious need at right tackle, and Proctor profiling as more of a right-side dude, the fit is obvious.

The most important question that must be answered is whether Dart is the quarterback Proctor — or any O-lineman drafted here — is the guy he’d be protecting.

Russell Wilson will begin the 2025 NFL season as the Giants’ starter, but it shouldn’t take long before Dart makes his pro debut, if for no other reason than for New York to make sure they do, in fact, have their guy.
