Following an underwhelming form in the 2024-25 season, Real Madrid have been making significant changes to ensure a better run in the next.
The campaign was also an injury-riddled one for Real Madrid, who thoroughly suffered due to the lack of options in the backline. In an attempt to strengthen their defense in the upcoming season, Los Blancos have already signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth last month.
Huijsen joined Bournemouth from Juventus last year and turned heads with his performances for the Cherries, contributing to seven clean sheets while also registering three goals and two assists in 32 matches in the Premier League.
After signing for Real Madrid for a reported £50 million, Huijsen has recently revealed his ‘idol,’ who also happens to be one of Los Blancos’ legendary defenders.
Who is new Real Madrid signee Dean Huijsen’s idol?
While speaking to the newspaper Diario AS after training with Spain on Monday, Huijsen mentioned (comments via ESPN) that he aspires to be like Sergio Ramos and heaped praise on the Spanish defender’s qualities.
“I try to aspire to be like Sergio Ramos. He’s my idol. For me, he’s very complete, he had everything. In terms of leadership, goalscoring, personality, character,” he said.

Huijsen also spoke about his arrival at Santiago Bernabeu and stated that he has already talked to new Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso.
“My plan was to spend two years at Bournemouth, and grow, and then figure out what to do next. But things have moved very quickly, faster than I expected,” said the Spanish International.
“We’ve talked a bit about the team and what he has in mind, and about the project. Of course, we want to win things again, and I’m sure we will… I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. But I’m here at Madrid, and I’ll try to do my best. I want to play with the best. [Kylian] Mbappé, Vinícius [Júnior], Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, all those in attack — they’re some of the best there is,” he concluded.
During his 16-season tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, Ramos won 22 trophies with Real Madrid. The defender also scored 101 goals and provided 40 assists in 671 appearances.
It remains to be seen if Huijsen is able to emulate his idol, Ramos’ success at Real Madrid.
