The New Orleans Saints could be in trouble when it comes to the quarterback position. Derek Carr could end up missing the entire 2025 NFL season due to a shoulder injury, as reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Carr missing the season would put the Saints in a rough position.
Currently, the next starting quarterback for New Orleans after Carr would be Spencer Rattler. It’s possible the Saints could trade for or draft another starter for the 2025 season, but they’ll need to figure something out soon. They could also look to sign an option like Aaron Rodgers.
Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart have been suggested as possible options for New Orleans in the 2025 NFL Draft. Should the team look to go the trade route, there are only a few options available.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports has suggested a wild trade idea for the Saints. He mentioned a $230 million trade target in Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
“After trading for former Eagle Kenny Pickett, it looks like the Browns are moving away from Deshaun Watson,” he wrote. “The veteran hasn’t been able to stay healthy in back-to-back seasons, so there’s no surprise there. Watson could be dealt to the Saints at least to give time for Rattler to learn behind him.”

Watson would be a very surprising trade target for New Orleans. He has not performed well when he has been on the field and like Palacios mentioned, he has been unable to stay on the field.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Browns, Watson played in just seven games before going down with a torn Achilles. He also re-tore his Achilles while rehabbing.
There is a chance that Watson could miss a good chunk of the 2025 NFL season as well. While the idea has been suggested, it seems highly unlikely that the Saints would even consider Watson as a trade option.
