New Jersey in pursuit of Quinn Hughes

Quinn Hughes has made his mark in the NHL as one of the top defenseman in the game today. The 2024 Norris winner is the Vancouver Canucks franchise player and one they hope they can lock up for the foreseeable future.

The question at hand is whether the Vancouver captain will want to sign a long term extension once his current deal with the club expires after the conclusion of the 26-27 season. The Canucks are on a downward trajectory having sold a fair amount of its past core, most notably J.T. Miller, after a disappointing 24-25 campaign that saw them miss the playoffs after a 109 point season the year before. The Canucks are hoping to get back into playoff contention this upcoming year, they will need to get back on an upward climb these next couple years to incentive Hughes to stick around.

Because as one of the best dmen in the NHL, teams around the league will be craving Hughes’ services if there’s any inkling he wants out of Vancouver. One team in particular will be one to watch in a potential Quinn Hughes sweepstakes down the road.

What team is monitoring Quinn Hughes?

The New Jersey Devils are reportedly eyeing Quinn Hughes via Michael Russo. Not only does Hughes make sense for New Jersey as it would give them a true number 1 defenseman, but the brother connection would also be a wholesome story. Both of Quinn’s brothers, Jack and Luke, play in Jersey. It would be something if the Devils can unite all 3 brothers, imagine them together in 3 on 3 overtime!

Until then, the hockey world will continue to wait and see what happens with Quinn Hughes future. The 25 year old is coming off another stellar season, having amassed 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points in 68 games with Vancouver last season.
